NARUTAKI
TOMAE AWASEDO
200 x 75x 33mm
2lb 12oz
Down the center SHO NARUTAKI AWASE TOISHI SHO (original Narutaki finish
sharpening stone)
Reads on the stone top from the upper right down, TOKUSEN (specially chosen)
This is an actual Narutaki Mine stone most likely extracted in the 1930s pre-war era as
the Narutaki was one of the mines to close in modern times and towards the end the
stones were smaller.
Although not as pretty as some stones, this is a wonderfully fine and hard stone from
one of the most famous and oldest Higashimono mines. In fact this mine was with-in
the city limits of Kyoto
As with some of these hard stones you can raise a slurry quickly with a diamond plate
as seen in the lower photo, and this will accelerate the cutting qualities by many fold, or
use this one with just clear water to get one of the best polishes around. Priced very
reasonable because I have quite a few of these.
The back of the stone shows areas of the outer skin called kawa.
