| In the center right is HAKUBA (white horse)' And down the lower right corner SAIKOKYU (very best quality). This wide heavy shiro or white suita stone with renge or purple lotus pattern is beautiful and very rare. It came from a store in a small town in Japan that closed in the 1970s containing stock dating back to the 1930s. The awasedo has not been used other than to test the quality at one edge of the stone as you can see in the photos and it is considered to be New/Old Stock. With waves of fine dark renge this Shiro Suita awase toishi is from the deepest layers of the mines, and are even deeper then Hon Suita strata. This stone provides a pure white paste with a diamond nagura, is fairly or moderately hard and represents the highest quality suita tennen toishi to be found. Everything about this stone is dramatic, from the top side with the full display of renge to the back with its hand chiseled creamy color. This is a moderately to fairly hard stone and after using a diamond plate to develop a slurry the tremendous speed qualities are unlocked and the stone cuts very quickly. Suita #72 is a very fine grit stone that with a paste it is not a difficult stone to use and in fact totally different than synthetic stones. |
